Damn those protein prices!

Remember when you could buy a quality 5lb whey protein for under $30? Those were the good old days! Protein prices have skyrocketed in the last few years due to the high demand of raw materials and large companies expanding into the protein market. There will probably continue to be a limited supply of raw materials, so protein prices are probably not decreasing in price anytime soon. Get comfortable paying at least $60+ for a quality 5lb whey protein. So, here's what you should be thinking... "Why am I taking a protein powder?" If you're consuming a protein powder for muscle recovery, let me just inform you... there are better ways to increase muscle recovery (and therefore muscle mass) without the extra calories that a protein powder will give you.

There are a lot of protein powders to choose from, so what protein company should you go with? Well, you need to watch out for protein scams! Most proteins on the market do not meet label claims and some are just plain horrible. You might be looking for an FDA regulated protein... that's only in a perfect world. The FDA has so much on their hands they could never keep up with all the fraudulent dietary supplements. The trusted companies have nothing to hide. This is why when I’m looking for a protein or some kind of supplement I go to www.npainfo.org and look up the supplement company I’m interested in and see if the company recognized by this organization. In order to be a part of the Natural Product Association, you must be part of their 3rd party product testing called "True Labels." When you go to www.npainfo.org , put in the supplement company's name. If they are recognized by this organization, you can feel confident buying their products. Just because a supplement company is NOT recognized by the NPA, doesn’t mean they don’t have quality products, it's just that in my 13 years of experience in dietary supplement manufacturing, I feel (if you have nothing to hide), you should let a 3rd party company test your products.

Take a look at some of my other blogs. I will be doing supplement reviews and product testing. In my blogs, you will find the best muscle building productbodybuilding contest information and cool facts on dietary supplement manufacturing! So if you're interested in learning how your products are being made, stay tuned with the Protein Wizard and get educated, not sold!
